The 1934 FIFA World Cup 1934 was held in Italy, after Italy got chosen over Sweden. Thirty six nations entered to participate, but only sixteen teams would qualify to compete in Italy. The champions Uruguay boycotted the competition in retaliation as only four European teams had accepted to participate in the 1930 World Cup.

There was no place reserved for the host, so Italy also competed the qualification stage. 12 places were reserved for Europe, 3 to the Americas, 1 for Africa and Asia.

The final was played by Italy and Czechoslovakia. Czechoslovakia was winning the game 1-0 almost to the end, when the Italians managed to score, taking the game to extra time. Italy then scored again winning the second FIFA World Cup.
